Crate&Barrel - “Made In The USA”

A factory-floor film series on how Crate & Barrel's core upholstery is actually built, shot across two North Carolina furniture makers

Director

Post-Production Supervisor

Result

Six videos built to run across a dedicated Made in the USA landing page, every product page for both factories' collections, paid and organic social, and email.

Scope

2 factories · 2.5-day shoot · 4-person crew · 6 deliverables · running across web, PDPs, paid & organic social, and email

The Brief

Show the quality behind Crate & Barrel's core furniture by taking customers inside the factories where it's made. The strategic requirement was that the film work at scale. By focusing on two vendors with similar processes, McCreary Modern and Design Foundry, a single production could generate content that lives across dozens of collection and product pages rather than just one campaign. This is mid-funnel work, made for the moment a customer is deciding whether a sofa is worth it.

How We Made It

I owned this one from concept to delivery. I developed the creative approach, built the storyboards shot by shot, and pulled a reference set from brands whose maker-storytelling I admire, including Buck Mason, Arhaus, Randolph, and Morinone, to define a tone that felt crafted and human rather than industrial. From there I produced the entire shoot: the schedule, flights, and tech scout, plus all the coordination with leadership at both factories to get a small crew access to live production floors.

Then I directed it. A 4-person crew across three facilities in 2.5 days, moving fast through frame construction, hand-applied springs, sewing, and final upholstery while capturing the specific steps each factory wanted highlighted. The two plants run different processes (McCreary's grid suspension and in-house frame cutting, Design Foundry's sinuous springs and outsourced frames), so part of directing was building a visual language consistent enough to intercut yet honest to each floor. We closed the story back in our own studio, filming the finished sofa being shot for the very marketing image customers see online. The full arc, raw lumber to product page.

The Result

Six films, :15 and :30 brand cuts plus PDP versions, engineered for reach: a dedicated Made in the USA landing page on crateandbarrel.com, the product pages for the McCreary and Design Foundry collections, paid and organic social, and email. One 2.5-day production feeding the full funnel, built to work across a large swath of the core catalog rather than a single placement. The scale requirement, answered in the edit.
